The Bible tells us how we can know God personally. In the book of Genesis, God tells us that He made man to have fellowship with him. God gave man the ability to make choices and along with these choices come consequences. When man chose to disobey God, or sin, his fellowship was broken. This is called death, or separation and exists on two levels. Physical death is the moment we leave this world and enter eternity. Spiritual death is separation from God which will result in spending eternity in Hell. Man is unable to rescue himself from this peril. No amount of good deeds will pay this price. God's Word says that we have all sinned and fallen short of God's standard of perfection. The penalty is death, both physical and spiritual.
God loves man and made the ultimate sacrifice to provide for his salvation, or deliverance from spiritual death. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to die on the Cross and pay for our sins. Jesus was our substitute as He hung on the cross and suffered our punishment. When He died they buried Him, His payment for our sins. Jesus is alive today! Whenever a person acknowledges, before God, that he/she is guilty of sinning against God and deserves His punishment he/she must turn to Jesus in faith and trust what He did on Calvary. This act of faith involves putting our complete trust in Christ for forgiveness and the receiving of Christ into our lives as Savior and Lord.
