Brief History of Liberty

Libery Baptist Church was organized on August 20, 1840, and met in the Thomas Neely School House. The first church building was located at the Libery (Neely) Cemetery on Old Brandon Road near the entrance of the Jackson-Evers International Airport.

In 1890, the church relocated to 3737 Flowood Drive which is now Kids Stop Preschool. This was the home of Liberty Baptist Church for 94 years.

On July 1, 1984, the first church service was held at the current location on Lakeland Drive. We have seen many changes in our community, but the need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ remains the same.

We have recently renovated our sanctuary and enlarged it with a balcony. We are in a transition period as we seek additional staff to meet the needs of this congregation to connect people through worship and then enroll them in small groups to equip or train them in their knowledge of Jesus Christ.

A new emphasis has been placed on serving our community. It is our intention to make a difference in the Reservoir-Flowood area in central Mississippi by sharing the Gospel for the Glory of God!
